Hydraulic disc brake repair guide

Bicycle Braking Parts is one of the most important parts of our bike, and today we come to show you how to check your cleaning of your hydraulic discs in all directions. There are many brands of hydraulic disc brakes on the market, and we take Shimano XT as an example to illustrate the operation, many brands of cleaning inspection procedures are similar. Tools: Piston expansion tool, Allen wrench, Brake cleaner, Oval caliper, Wipes, Small brush Material: new to make tablets, discs, O-rings high temperature grease.

▲ first remove the wheel, Use the hex wrench to release the fixing screw on the brake lining
Use the expansion tool to reset the brake lining for later removal and inspection
▲ Remove the old brake lining from the clip
Check the brake lining wear, when the brake lining wear to 0.5mm, or spring contact with the disc, you must immediately replace the new brake lining. Such as the above picture, brake lining has been very serious wear and tear.
It is recommended to buy the original brake lining, the market has a lot of cheap fancy repair parts, but the quality can not be guaranteed, I encountered a case that owing to the brake lining base tolerance is too large lead to brake abnormalities, adjust the clean to no avail On the original brake lining, the abnormal sound immediately disappeared. ▲ to ensure that the new brake lining at least 2mm thickness, completely clean the clip before installation Then we check the disc, the disc also has the wear limit, the disc's ultimate thickness will be marked on the disc. In addition we have to check whether the disc is bent or cracked.
▲ If the disc thickness is less than 1.5mm, should be replaced immediately
Rescue the piston, lightly brake the handle, observe the movement of the piston, we can see the right piston moving more than the left piston. Usually the cause of uneven piston movement may be due to the emergence of air bubbles in the oil, or piston edge,O-ring was contaminated, and then to clean and investigation.
▲ Take some brake cleaner, spray around the piston
▲ wipe with a clean paper towel or non-woven fabric
▲ dip into a little O-ring high temperature grease with a small brush, carefully applied to the prominent piston edge.
▲ check the operation of the piston, if no abnormal situation, re-reset the piston, wipe off the excess grease, ready to install brake lining.
▲ Notice that distinguish the left and right brake lining
▲ Insert the fixing screw
▲ fully tightened
▲ install the rear wheel, adjust the folder position, make the disc remains centered, fixed screw locking torque 6-8N · M
▲ check
▲ you can see that the disc is centered
▲Check the hand feeling of the braking
